Mixology 101: How to Make a Manhattan

A Manhattan martini could be one of the most commonly ordered drinks during the holidays. It definitely was when I was behind the bar and with good reason; there's just something about the sweetness of the whiskey and the spices of the bitters that makes it a perfectly festive cold weather drink. Manhattan 1

This is my favorite recipe ( I usually use rye or bourbon but that's up to you…try all three versions if you can before the end of the year. Consider it a challenge). Just don't skimp on the main ingredient. It truly makes all the difference. And if you love this drink, taste a 3:1 on the bourbon and sweet vermouth.

Manhattan 2

Manhattan Martini Recipe 2.5 ounces whiskey/bourbon/rye ¾ ounce sweet vermouth 4-5 dashes bitters (I'm nuts about bitters and always put in extra. Start with 2-3 dashes and then build from there) 1 maraschino cherry

Directions: Add all of the ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Mix well and then strain into a martini shaker. Garnish with a cherry and serve.
