It's still pouring rain outside here in Los Angeles and the mood around town couldn't be more cheerful. Last night we had a fantastic thunder and lighting storm that was probably the highest rated show in Hollywood. We literally sat on the stairs in our house by a big window and watched and listened to the sky. I know...weird SoCal people who never see rain. Here is a cocktail inspired by the weather and perfect for a brisk spring weekend in May.
Stormy Weather 1.5 ounces rye 3 ounces fresh grapefruit juice 2 ounces organic blueberries 1 teaspoon organic vanilla honey ¼ ounce fresh lemon juice ¼ teaspoon blood orange bitters
Directions Combine all of the ingredients except for the bitters into a measuring pitcher. Muddle the blueberries until they are completely broken apart. Strain the mixture into a martini shaker filled with ice. If you don't want any of the blueberry pulp (as fine as it is), use a cheese cloth or cloth napkin to strain the liquid. Add the bitters, then shake the cocktail for several seconds. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with lemons and blueberries if desired.
