Summer Drinks: Citrus Sangria (with Tequila!)

It's almost August but summer is far far from over. Here's an easy and delicious summer sangria recipe with tequila that will wow your guests and leave them wishing you made a pitcher per person (at least that's the kind of friends we have). Citrus Sangria 2

Citrus Sangria (Serves 8) 1 bottle chilled chardonnay 1 cup silver tequila 2/3 cup grapefruit schnapps 1 ounce fresh lime juice 1 whole grapefruit, thinly sliced 1 whole minneola tangelo, thinly sliced 1 whole lemon, thinly sliced 2 whole limes, chopped 1/2 cup sugar (optional)

Directions Wash your produce, then thinly slice the grapefruit, minneola tangelo, and lemon, and set aside. I picked all the seeds out of my lemons because I did not want them floating on the bottom of the pitcher! But if that’s too high maintenance for you, skip it! Chop the lime into triangular pieces by slicing thick wheels, and tracing the natural division lines with a sharp knife. In a pitcher, combine the chardonnay, tequila, grapefruit schnapps, and fresh lime juice. Layer in the fruit starting with the grapefruit, and ending with the lemon. Sprinkle the lime pieces on top and serve.

As the sangria sits (maybe for a few hours in your fridge), the citrus flavor will become more intense, which means a slightly more sour. To balance this, add a half cup of ultrafine baker’s sugar, or simple syrup to the mix before serving.
